Section 17 – Recovery of Sums

Any sum payable in pursuance of this Act (otherwise than by way of fine) shall be recoverable summarily as a civil debt.

This refers to the summary procedure in section 58 of the Magistrates Court Act 1980. It does not mean that an award can be enforced using the summary procedure in rule 70.5 of the Civil Procedure Rules (Zissis v Lukomski) but does not preclude “standard” proceedings in the County Court.
