National Minimum Wage

CODE: GREEN

In their 2013 report, the Low Pay Commission (LPC) made the following recommendations for national minimum wage rates which the Government has accepted:

1. The adult rate to increase from £6.19 by 12p to £6.31 an hour
2. The rate for 18-20 year olds to increase from £4.98 by 5p to £5.03 an hour
3. The rate for 16-17 year olds to increase from £3.68 by 4p to £3.72 an hour
4. The accommodation offset to increase from £4.82 to £4.91

These changes will come into effect from October 2013.

The Government disagreed however with the LPC’s recommendations concerning the apprentice rate. The LPC suggested that the rate be frozen, however the Government has decided that, from October 2013, the rate will increase by 3p to £2.68.
