Chris Darvill, Dispute Resolution Lawyer

Chris is a Partner in Morr & Co’s Dispute Resolution team, specialising in the resolution of complex commercial disputes for both corporate entities and private individuals. Chris has extensive experience of dealing with litigation in both the High Court, including in the specialist commercial courts and the County Court.

In addition, Chris is well versed in the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms, including mediation and expert determination, to resolve disputes outside of the court process.

Chris advises on various types of commercial disputes, including contractual disputes, internal business disputes such as shareholder and director disputes, insolvency and professional negligence. In addition, Chris is experienced in contentious intellectual property matters, including claims relating to trade mark infringement, passing off and copyright infringement.

Chris also represents clients in claims arising from personal data breaches, the misuse of cookies and the use of dynamic search advertisements that potentially infringe on third party trademarks.

Chris is recognised in the Legal 500 for both his work in commercial litigation and his contentious intellectual property practice.

Joining Morr & Co in 2022, Chris has over 16 years of commercial dispute resolution experience gained at both national and regional law firms, in addition to a period of time spent working in-house for a national retailer.

Chris has experience of working across many different industry sectors, including technology, energy, retail and education.

Chris works with clients to proactively manage risk, helping them to avoid disputes and litigation whenever feasible. In cases where resolution without litigation is not achievable, Chris adopts a commercial approach focused on addressing issues in a timely and cost-effective manner, while remaining aligned to his clients' objectives.

Recent experience

Advising a corporate client in connection with an alleged claim for trade mark infringement arising out of the use of the Google dynamic search advertisement functionality.

Advising a corporate client and two individual shareholders in connection with a claim for the unlawful appropriation of a business by a third party. This matter resulted in a 12 day trial in the Circuit Commercial Court.

Acting for a former student against a UK university in connection with claims under the Equality Act.

Advising a supplier of aircraft parts in connection with a claim for the return of a deposit payment advanced to the seller of an aircraft based in Kuwait.

Advising a corporate client in connection with the breach of the terms of a consultancy agreement arising from the failure by the other contracting party to make payment in cash and by way of an agreed allotment of shares.

Acting for court appointed deputies for an individual in relation to claims against (1) an insurer of the residential property for improperly denying cover and (2) the former court appointed deputy for failure to put in place adequate insurance cover.

Advising a former director in connection with a threatened claim by former shareholders of a business for breach of their equitable duty to provide shareholders with sufficient information to make informed decisions.
