Morrisons Solicitors are pleased to host the inaugural Basement Extensions Conference. The Conference will bring together leading experts from the engineering, geotechnical, surveying and legal professions, to look at best practice for basement extensions with a great opportunity to network with others who have a significant interest in basement construction.

Although targeted at practitioners the event will be of interest to contractors, neighbours and indeed anyone with an interest in this novel type of construction.

9:30-10:30 – Session one: Nick Isaac – Barrister, Tanfield Chambers – Avoiding legal pitfalls in basement construction & how not to get into a hole when digging one.

10:30-11:00 – Morning coffee break

11:00-12:00 – Session two: Michael De Freitas – Hydrological Engineer & Distinguished Research Fellow, Imperial College – Ground conditions, the greatest unknown, and how they should be considered.

12:00-1:15 – Lunch

1:45-2:45 – Session three: Will Minting – Party Wall Surveyor, Wilks Head & Eve – Determining the time and manner of the work: What is unnecessary inconvenience?’

3:15-4:15 – Session four: Tim Chapman – Geotechnical Engineer, Arup – Construction impacts from inserting basements and how they can be addressed
