Long term prospects
In selecting trainees, we are looking for people who will make a good fit with our business – and having found you, we are keen to hold on to you. That’s why we have an established record of offering outstanding trainees positions as newly-qualified solicitors in their chosen specialist area. However, market conditions do influence our ability to take on trainees and it is not possible to guarantee you a position post qualification.
On qualification our trainees will join our innovative Newly Qualified Development programme, which provides continued learning and support through the first three years of qualification. Retention of our trainees on qualification is high, but will always depend on business needs.
We usually recruit three trainee solicitors a year, with employment starting in September.
We accept applications from both internal and external candidates.
We look for applicants with a good academic background and, although we do not set rigid thresholds, we normally expect a minimum of a 2.1 Bachelor’s degree. However, you do not have to have studied law to apply. The practice of law is evolving fast and we recognise that good candidates from other degree backgrounds can enrich our practice with new knowledge and insights.
We look for individuals with personality, confidence, enthusiasm, commercial awareness and attention to detail. Being able to work in a team alongside all colleagues, from the most senior to the most junior, is also vital.

Want to become a Solicitor without going to University with no additional costs? This is an exciting opportunity for dedicated, talented, ambitious individuals to join a modern, forward-thinking and supportive law firm.
Our Solicitor Apprentice role is initially based at our Redhill office but the successful candidate may be required to work from and or travel to our other offices during the apprenticeship. You will work in different departments within the firm over the six year period, starting off gently with some of the more administrative duties so that you can gain confidence before taking on more technical responsibilities and client contact.
Some of the duties may include:
- Carrying out Legal Research
- Taking basic instructions from clients
- Drafting client letters, witness statements, emails and other documents as required
- Business Development including article writing and seminar attendance
The ideal candidate will be ambitious and committed to succeed. You will also need excellent communication skills, a good eye for detail, the ability to follow instructions and enjoy working as part of a team. You will have the ability to absorb and apply legal principles in practical situations. Your verbal and written communication will be clear, straightforward and accurate. You will be adaptable, logical and work well under pressure.
