On 9th November we held our popular Morrisons’ annual Wimbledon charity quiz and this year it was themed ‘The Great British Quiz Off’. Over 100 guests spread across 14 teams joined us at the Antoinette Hotel to test their knowledge of British popular culture through the ages, raising money for a brilliant local charity, stem4.
Our guests enjoyed 8 rounds of challenging questions from our quizmaster and in between enjoyed the option of three traditional British dishes; fish and chips, toad in the hole and vegetable wellington. If that wasn’t enough, there was apple crumble for dessert!
After everyone was fed, our Managing Partner Paul Harvey thanked our guests for coming and introduced Nihara Krause of stem4 to explain a little more about the fantastic work that their charity does. Nihara emphasised how common it is now for teenagers to have mental health issues and explained the importance of removing social stigma to identify and stem these issues at an early stage. Her passion for improving teenage mental health was very evident in her speech and stem4’s community involvement, in particular the workshops they provide across numerous schools, is extremely inspiring.
Before the quiz drew to a close and winners announced, we held our charity raffle with a chance to win a number of different prizes. We would like to thank AFC Wimbledon, Neom Organics, CAU Restaurant, Holistic Fitness and Jacks of London for their kind donations. We would also like to thank Handelsbanken, Centre Court Shopping, Menzies, WSM and Whitman Fry for bringing further prizes along with their teams to give away.
The time had finally come to announce our winners for the evening. The Metro Maestro’s (Metro Bank) and Clear as Mud (Clear Insurance Management) came closest with their answers to the spot question posed by stem4 on stress related illness. It was team Rising Champ (MFS Independent Financial Advisors) that took the glory for the Marathon round, answering an astounding 49 out of 50 questions correctly. However, and the end of a great quiz, it was Handelsbanken Kingston who took home the trophy for the second year in a row, closely followed by runners-up, the Wimbledon Super Marvels (WSM Partners Ltd).
We would like to say a special thank you to all the teams that participated in this year’s quiz and congratulations again to Handelsbanken Kingston for topping the leader board. The feedback we received on the night was brilliant and we hope that everyone had an enjoyable evening.
With your continued support, this year we managed to raise £1000 for stem4. A great success for a very important cause and we cannot wait to do it all again next year!
