The ‘Morrisons Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ raises money for Age UK Merton

By Jordan Clarke

On 23rd November we held the ‘Morrisons Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ and what a brilliant evening it was! Over 100 guests organised into 16 teams joined us at the Antoinette Hotel in Wimbledon, to challenge our quizmaster and raise money for our chosen charity of the year, Age UK Merton.

With Brexit, the election of Donald Trump and the Olympic Games, amongst other things, it is safe to say that this year has been exciting, controversial and definitely one to remember! Therefore the theme of our charity quiz this time was ‘2016’ with a Thanksgiving twist.

After our guests enjoyed 8 rounds of tantalising questions, a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and a slice of pumpkin pie, our Managing Partner Paul Harvey introduced Claire Nethersole of Age UK Merton who spoke about the fantastic work that they achieve within the community. For more information on this please visit their website https://www.ageuk.org.uk/merton/.

Before the evening drew to a close and the winners were announced, there was still time for our charity quiz raffle, which included generous donations of vouchers from Gina Conway, Holistic Fitness Gym, New Wimbledon Theatre, Sticks and Sushi, Lagoon Spa and Burger Shack. Thank you also to our guests Handelsbanken, Menzies and Whitman Fry for their donations to the raffle on the night!

After a fantastic evening all round, the time finally came to announce our winners. We had a tie for runners up and both the Wimbledon Super Mavericks (WSM Advisors Ltd) and Fruiting Bodies (Ward James) went away with a bottle of bubbly each. However the winners of the ‘Morrisons Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ was Handlesbanken Kingston, who took home the trophy along with a Morrisons goody bag each. Congratulations once again to them!

Even though AGE UK Merton were the recipients of our last place wooden spoons on the night, we managed to raise £700 for their charity and judging by the positive feedback that we received from all of our guests, the night was a great success once again!

Thank you again to all the teams that participated this year and helped us to support such a wonderful local charity. See you all again next year!
