Tax disputes cause a great deal of anxiety for our clients, because of the far-reaching consequences of failure to comply with tax liabilities. Many of our clients are referred to us by their company accountant or book-keeper once a potential dispute has been identified with HMRC. We can advise individuals and companies on both indirect and direct tax disputes with HM Revenue & Customs. Indirect taxes are taxes collected by an intermediary, such as a supplier or retailer. VAT is a good example. Direct taxes are those that you pay yourself, directly to the Government, such as income tax.
We regularly represent clients before the First Tier and Upper Tier Tribunals and in proceedings brought by the FCA and NCA.
We advise clients on complex Stamp Duty Land Tax matters arising from commercial property transactions, the purchase of high value homes and property portfolio investments.
